Entire village with one road in and out left without power for hours

An entire village had a huge power cut leaving around 2,000 people without power for hours.

Hightown, the Merseyside village with just one road in and out, was left stranded with no electricity from around 7.55am, with people still waiting for the power to be returned. Scottish Power confirmed it was aware of the issue affecting those living in the village, as well as parts of Crosby.

The company also said it could take until this afternoon to fix the outage, with repairs taking longer than expected due to "further investigation" being required. Scottish Power wrote on their website around 10am today: "There is a power cut in the L23 and L38 postcode areas of Crosby and Hightown affecting properties in a widespread area.

"We did not know in advance there would be a power cut, and became aware of this at 7:55 am. Repairs are taking longer than expected because further investigations are required to locate the fault and our team are now working to get your power back on as quickly and as safely as possible by 1pm."

The postcodes affected by the power cut are L230UB, L380BA, L380BB, L380BD, L380BE, L380BG, L380BH, L380BJ, L380BL, L380BN, L380BP, L380BQ, L380BS, L380BT, L380BU, L380BW, L380DB, L383RB, L383RJ, L389AN, L389AW, L389EA, L389EB, L389EE, L389EF, L389EG, L389EH, L389EJ, L389EL, L389EN, L389EP, L389EQ, L389ER, L389ES, L389ET, L389EU, L389EW, L389EX, L389EY, L389EZ, L389GE, L389GF, L389GG, L389GH, L389GJ, L389GL, L389GQ, L42QF.
