Enter the 2023 LeicestershireLive Innovation Awards now

Nominations for the 2023 LeicestershireLive Innovation Awards are well and truly open.

The 2023 ceremony takes place at the National Space Centre, in Leicester, on February 16, and the deadline for applications is January 8 – just over six weeks away. The awards will be part of the fifth annual Leicestershire Innovation Festival taking place next February.

Since its launch the awards have become a popular addition to the city and county’s business calendar with a long list of distinguished and up-and-coming tech businesses and innovators picking up recognition.

The 2022 awards, for instance, saw accolades for Loughborough-based Nemaura Medical, which makes non-invasive wearable diagnostic devices, as well as hydrogen fuel cell developer Intelligent Energy, which is also based in Loughborough.

There were also awards for LENKÈ Space & Water Solutions, which is based at Space Park Leicester, and uses space data to look at water coverage in different parts of the world to improve supplies where fresh water is scarce.

The 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award went to Prof Kamlesh Khunti, professor of Primary Care Diabetes & Vascular Medicine at the University of Leicester – in recognition of his dedication to helping people with diabetes and helping drive research into the impact of Covid-19 at the start of the pandemic.

The 2023 headline sponsors are De Montfort University, Morningside Pharmaceuticals in Loughborough and the University of Leicester.

The category sponsors are Acute Business Advisory, Intelligent Energy, Loughborough University and the MIRA Technology Institute.

De Montfort Vice-Chancellor Professor Katie Normington said: “We are proud to be a sponsor for the Leicestershire Innovation Awards.

“Every year they showcase some of the incredible ideas and companies which we have in the city and county and it is always a highlight in the business calendar.

“DMU is here to support innovation in all its forms, empowering businesses and innovators to develop their ideas through collaboration.

“We are determined to do all we can to ensure the city and county can achieve its ambition to become a powerhouse for innovation and creativity.”

Reach PLC events manager Paige Jackson, who is organising the awards, urged businesses to enter as soon as possible.

She said: “The awards will celebrate the very best technology, services, digital advances, and creative thinking that the region has to offer and will bring to a close the Innovation Festival 2023.

“Previous winners have used the awards to raise their profile, attract new employees, and have gone on to develop national and international success.”
