Manchester United supporters have taken to social media to vent their frustrations at David de Gea after his jaw-dropping error for the opening goal against West Ham.
Despite making a bright start at the London Stadium on Sunday night, United found themselves 1-0 down 27 minutes into that Premier League contest after Said Benrahma found the net. However, that was little due to his right-footed strike and more to do with De Gea somehow being unable to claw it away.
Before getting down to business against relegation-threatened opponents, United needed three victories to confirm Champions League qualification for next season. But while they remain in pole position to do so, they were made to deal with another needless hurdle in that ongoing European push.

On the stretch, Benrahma picked up possession when he intercepted from Luke Shaw and poked at the target in search of an unlikely opener. Unfortunately for United, though, their long-serving goalkeeper dived over the tame effort.
De Gea, 32, only has two months left to run on his current deal and the club are expected to extend that stay on reduced terms. However, judging by social media platform Twitter, there are United supporters who would rather Erik ten Hag rethink renewal plans for his goalkeeper.
Having signed for United from Atletico Madrid 12 years ago, De Gea has made 540 appearances for the club in all competitions. Here are a selection of comments following his astonishing mistake.
