Enniskillen town centre to reopen one week ahead of schedule

Enniskillen town centre will reopen to traffic this weekend, one week ahead of schedule.

The town's Public Realm Scheme entered its final phase last week, with The Diamond area closed off to traffic.

Motorists had been asked to seek an alternative route which avoids the town centre while the work is ongoing.

But in a statement on Monday morning, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council (FODC) confirmed that The Diamond carriageway will reopen one week ahead of schedule, at 5pm this Friday, February 4.

The FODC spokesperson said: "Good progress has been made by our contractor FP McCann over the last 10 days with the road closure and paving to The Diamond carriageway is now complete.

"Following curing of the paving bed and base coat resurfacing to the existing roadway, The Diamond carriageway will reopen to traffic.

"Thank you for your continued support and understanding during this improvement scheme."

The £5.2million scheme is progressing towards the final phase with the entire project on schedule to complete in spring of this year.

The scheme, which is funded by the Department for Communities and the local council, is enhancing the appearance of the town centre with improvements to footpaths, street lighting, landscaping and street furniture.
