Enniskillen man Benny Cassidy getting walking shoes on in cancer fundraiser

A well-known NHS worker from Enniskillen is preparing to walk 10,000 steps a day in March in a tribute to those who have lost their lives to cancer.

Benny Cassidy, who runs the popular Facebook group Enniskillen Banter, will take on the challenge next month to raise funds for Cancer Research.

Benny works as a porter in the South West Acute Hospital in the Co Fermanagh town, and the grandfather has already raised more than £1,200 so far.

“I'm a 62 year old granda that puts up many miles as a lifelong member of the portering team but this challenge will add thousands of steps to my stepping it out total,” Benny said

“I'm really looking forward to it all and have to say a huge thanks to everyone who has been supporting, encouraging and donating to this very worthy cause.

“One in two of us will get cancer in our lifetime but for over 20 years events like this have been making a difference.

"I'm taking part as I know it supports life-saving research."

Benny said the walk is a tribute to thise who have lost their battle with cancer, as well as those who have bravely fought the disease.

“I want to play my part and work with others as together we will beat cancer," Benny added.

“My month long walk is a small tribute to all those that have lost their battle with this terrible condition.

"It's also my way of saying thank you to all of you that have survived and have told their story as you are very brave and inspirational to others.”
