Enniskillen Drama Festival organiser glad to see event return after two years

The Enniskillen Drama Festival is set to return to the Ardhowen Theatre next month after its last run in 2020 was cut short by Covid 19.

The week-long event was halfway through its shows when performances had to be stopped at the beginning of the pandemic two years ago.

With a decision taken to postpone the event last year, now organisers have an action packed schedule featuring a host of local theatre groups in March.

Organising committee member Dave Rees said it is great to see the festival return and praised the resilience of those working in the arts sector.

“We had our 40th anniversary festival in 2020, and it was halfway through that festival that the full lockdown happened,” Dave told MyFermanagh.

“So our 40th festival was truncated, and it’s been two years now that we’ve not it had it.

“We did an online version last year but of course it’s nothing like the real festival.

“I think one of the things that lockdown did show was the role of the arts and the role they play.

“Not having it, it has certainly been missed by us and many other people.

“It’s a testament to the courage of the groups because they had to make a decision last November to call it off or not, and they made that decision and good on them. It wasn’t an easy decision to make.”

The 2022 festival will run from March 5 to March 12, with performances such as The Night Alive from Enniskillen Theatre Company.

“We’ve got a good line up of different plays and different groups, and it’s great to be back this March,” Dave added.

“There’s a really strong local arts community here. We have groups coming from all over Ireland as well.

“So to be able to see all these groups is offering a feast of drama to people, and we’re so lucky to have our own local theatre.”
