Enjoy Your Scarf Coat While You Still Can Because 2024 Will Be the Year of the Cape Coat

Scarf coats are still all over Instagram feeds. The attached scarf somehow makes them more appealing. You know, as opposed to simply wrapping a similarly-hued separate scarf around your neck and over your coat. So don't be surprised when they're phased out next year in favor of another silhouette. More specifically, cape coats.

You can blame thank Kendall Jenner for the impending trend. She recently stepped out in Bottega Veneta's leather trench coat boasting an eye-catching cape across the front. It's actually from the fashion house's Spring 2024 collection and isn't even available yet to us mere mortals. (We're guessing Kendall got hers early because she appears in the brand's paparazzi-style campaign for the collection.)

But you don't have to wait to cosign the sure-to-be movement. There are plenty of cape-style coats to indulge in now. FYI: Some of them are simply dubbed capes, but if they supply adequate protection, they meet our criteria. By the way, there are quite a few trench coat interpretations out there, which means you'll be able to easily transition them into spring. That way you don't have to shell out for a new spring jacket.

The only downside? Almost all are pretty pricey. Although who knows how expensive Kendall's version will be since it's obviously leather. Which means many of our picks may be downright steals. Many are actually currently on sale. Like The Row's epic cashmere take, Dries Van Noten's cool cropped version and scarf coat instigator TOTEME's sleek black entry.

We did find a few coats that start off reasonable. COS offers a hooded padded cape that lets you embrace two trends at once (cape coats and puffer jackets) for only $170. Then there's The Frankie Shop's forest green covering at $310. In case you miss any of the sales, they'll remain solid alternatives.

Ready to get ahead of the sartorial curve? Then keep reading for all of the super stylish cape coats you can see now, buy now.
