This Saturday, May 21, Sunderland History Fair is open to the public at Bethany Church, Bede Tower, Burdon Road, Sunderland.
Seventy tables and exhibitions representing local history and heritage groups from around the region, as well as commercial organisations and public sector groups, will be on show. Rotten Romans, vicious Vikings and smashing Anglo-Saxons will re-enact and mingle (peacefully) with the crowd.
A series of expert speakers will give illustrated talks on aspects of the history of Wearside – including Sunderland AFC, the Lambtons, and the infamous dancer and courtesan Lola Montez. The famous 74-gun HMS Venerable on which Jack Crawford “nailed the flag to the mast” will be a subject of discussion, and Victorian and Edwardian bicycles will ridden around the exhibition area.

Free car parking is available in the main and overflow car parks. A regular bus service via Sunderland Interchange stops only yards away. Hot and cold food will be available throughout the day.
Sunderland History Fair takes place between 10am to 4pm at Bethany Church, Bede Tower, Burdon Road, Sunderland, SR2 7EA.
