Over 80 years, Enid Blyton wrote the first 'The Famous Five' book titled 'Five On A Treasure Island' which was published in 1942. The rest, as they say, is history. And now the news is that the popular book series, which is widely read across the world even today, is being adapted for the screen by BBC.
The shooting for the series has begun, as per reports. The story follows The Famous Five as they explore the world. The show is being created and executive produced by Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn and it will be produced by Matthew Read.
Talking about adapting the famous books for screen, Refn said, “All my life I’ve fought vigorously to remain a child with a lust for adventure. By reimagining 'The Famous Five', I am preserving that notion by bringing these iconic stories to life for a progressive new audience, instilling the undefinable allure and enchantment of childhood for current and future generations to come.”
The series will have three episodes of 90 minutes each. Episode one is written by Read, the second episode is by Priya K Dosanjh, and third episode is co-written by Matthew Bouch and Read.
Patricia Hidalgo- BBC Children’s Director, said, “These stories are loved around the world and bringing families together is a key part of our strategy so we hope it introduces a new generation of viewers to these wonderful adventures.”
Meanwhile, Blyton wrote 21 books in 'The Famous Five' series and these books have been adapted for screen many times. In fact, the continuation novels in the series are also written by French author Claude Voilier.
