The BBC were forced to make a change to their schedule on Wednesday night as England women's crunch Euro quarter final against Spain went right to the wire, with a screamer from Georgia Stanway eventually sealing a semi final spot for the home side.
After the nation cheered the side on in the World Cup three years ago, when they suffered semi final agony at the hands of the USA, there has been huge interest in Sarina Wiegman's team as they compete in the Euros. The women got off to a fantastic start in the group stages, with three wins a row, including a record breaking 8-0 victory over Norway and an emphatic 5-0 beating of Northern Ireland to round things off.
England's success in the group stages earned them a quarter final tie against well fancied Spain, who are actually ahead of them in the current rankings. After a nervy and closely fought first half, it was actually Spain who took the lead not long after the break, when Esther Gonzalez found the net.

With the clock ticking down to full time, England tried to level things up and got an equaliser in the 84th minute, courtesy of Ella Toone, as a large crowd at Brighton & Hove Community Stadium and millions of viewers willed them on.
As the match went to extra time, the BBC 10 o'clock news was pushed back for as long as it would take for the result to be decided. And then came a stunning strike from Georgia Stanway in the 96th minute which put England 2-1 up.
Host Gabby Logan reminded viewers at half time that the 'news would follow,' as she predicted a 'bit of a ride' in the second half of extra time. A repeat of Mo Farah's much talked about documentary was also pushed back to a later slot as a result of the football.
