England and USA players united before their friendly at Wembley on Friday in a show of solidarity with the victims of abuse and misconduct in the National Women’s Soccer League.
A year-long investigation into the United States’ top-flight was made public this week and it found how abuse and misconduct had become “systemic”.
England players have this week been speaking in support of the victims and before kick-off against the USA they came together with their opponents to show solidarity.
Both squads gathered in the centre-circle at Wembley before kick-off with a banner saying “PROTECT THE PLAYERS”.
The two teams were also wearing teal armbands in support of the victims and the Wembley Arch was lit up to show solidarity.
“We need to be brave enough to speak about the things that happen to us, whether it’s mentally or physically, and just hope the right people are listening to put into effect the changes that need to happen,” said England defender Lucy Bronze earlier this week.
