England vs Germany viewing figures confirmed for record-breaking Women's Euro 2022 final

A record breaking 87,192 fans watched at Wembley on Sunday evening as England's women beat Germany to win Euro 2022 on Sunday night while a further 17.4 million fans watched from home on the BBC.

The match was won by Chloe Kelly's extra-time winner, with the match finishing 2-1. It was a special night and the Lionesses have drawn praise from many notable figures for their performance, it is the first time that a senior England side has won a major trophy since 1966.

The BBC's coverage was fronted by Gabby Logan, with Ian Wright, Alex Scott and Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall acting as pundits for the match. An average of 11 million tuned in as the coverage broke the record for the highest viewing figures for a women's match.

Gary Lineker is the regular presenter of Match of the Day, and lauded the figures on Twitter, saying that they were 'wonderful'.

There were a further 5.9 million streams of the match on BBC iPlayer, with BBC director-general, Tim Davie saying: “We are incredibly proud to have championed women’s football and are thrilled we were able to bring such a special sporting moment to the public.

“This was the most-watched women’s football game on UK television of all-time and the most-watched programme in 2022 so far – and deservedly so.

“Everyone at the BBC is delighted at the win and being able to share that with the public.”.

BBC presenter Alex Scott is hosting the victory parade for the winning team, which takes place in Trafalgar Square this afternoon from 12:35pm. The parade will be broadcast live on BBC One
