England vs Australia LIVE: Cricket scorecard and Ashes updates after thrilling day two at Edgbaston

Khawaja - I don't have a point to prove

England were left to rue their missed chances during Australia’s first innings as rain delays on day three leave them in a precarious position to force a result in the first Ashes test.

Missed stumpings and dropped catches helped the visitors edge closer to England’s first innings total of 393 despite a morning session that saw the hosts claim all five of Australia’s remaining wickets.

Jimmy Anderson got the ball rolling by bowling Alex Carey, after he was previously dropped by Jonny Bairstow, before Ollie Robinson got in on the action dismissing Usman Khawaja for a sublime 141 and claiming 3-55 as the tourists finished on 386 - seven runs behind England.

On a tepid pitch, Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley looked to slowly accummulate runs in reply but a change in the overhead conditions and subsequent rain made batting difficult. In between rain breaks both openers were dismissed, by Pat Cummins and Scott Boland respectively, leaving England 35 runs ahead and facing a decision whether to stick or twist with their attacking mindset tomorrow.
