England starting XI 'leak' sees Newcastle United star in frame to start against Iran

Newcastle United's Kieran Trippier is reportedly set to start for England in their World Cup opener later today against Iran.

Gareth Southgate and co get their campaign underway at 1pm against Iran at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, with Magpies Trippier, Callum Wilson and Nick Pope all involved in the England squad.

With Kyle Walker set to be unavailable, and Trent Alexander-Arnold's recent poor form, Southgate looks set to hand Trippier the start at right-back.

This will come as no surprise however to Newcastle supporters who have seen Trippier deliver a number of incredible performances for the Magpies this term.

Plenty of national media outlets, including the Daily Mirror, believe the 32-year-old will start for Southgate in a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 formation.

Alongside the Daily Mirror's report, both the Daily Express and the Telegraph claim Trippier will be selected ahead of England's other fit right-back Alexander-Arnold on the right-side of defence.

Having featured in multiple different positions for the Three Lions, Trippier has always performed for England when called upon and is one of Southgate's most trusted players.

And even when Kyle Walker returns, it seems likely that Trippier will retain his place in England's starting line-up. Under Southgate, Walker traditionally operates as a right-sided centre-back in a back three, allowing Trippier to push on as a wing-back.

Here's how the national media predict England will line-up for their World Cup opener against Iran...
