England squad: Harry Kane faces fitness race for Nations League Finals

Gareth Southgate will hold talks with Harry Kane over his fitness in the next 24 hours as he determines whether the England captain is fit for the Nations League Finals.

Kane and the Tottenham and Liverpool players who featured in the Champions League Final have the option of reporting to St George's Park tonight or early tomorrow morning.

England staff with then put them through medical checks and Southgate will speak to Kane before deciding whether to start him against Holland on Thursday.

Kane struggled against Liverpool on Saturday in his first game since he suffered ankle injury ligament damage on April 9. He failed to make an impact up against Holland defender Virgil van Dijk as Tottenham lost 2-0.

England staff will have reports from Tottenham of Kane’s performance in Madrid and Southgate will also have two training sessions to assess his fitness.

Kane will train with England tomorrow and on Wednesday morning, before the squad will fly to Portugal ahead of their Nations League semi-final against Holland in Guimaraes on Thursday.

Danny Rose, Eric Dier and Dele Alli are also due to join up with the squad, along with Liverpool trio Jordan Henderson, Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The eight players involved in the Champions League appeared to come through the match without any fresh injuries.
