England players are still deciding which of FIFA’s eight approved armbands captain Millie Bright will wear in their World Cup opener against Haiti on Saturday.
Like at the men’s World Cup in Qatar, teams have been stopped from wearing a rainbow armband in support of LGBTQ+ rights.
Instead, players will be able to choose from eight alternative armbands highlighting a variety of social causes, including gender equality, peace, inclusion and ending violence against women.
Speaking from the Lionesses’ team base in Brisbane, Jordan Nobbs said: “We’ve had some brief conversations, but I think that will be discussed a little bit closer to the game.
“But obviously we know our values and equality, so that will be finalised soon.”
There is no specific armband that advocates for the LGBTQ+ community and none contains the rainbow spectrum commonly associated as the colours of pride.
While that decision has drawn criticism, England head coach Sarina Wiegman has said she thinks her players are happy with the solution.
