England send Australia in with women's Ashes on line

Australia have been asked to bat first in their one-day international against England in Southampton as the visitors attempt to overturn a three-match losing run and retain the women's Ashes.

England captain Heather Knight won the toss and opted to bowl first under gloomy skies at the Ageas Bowl.

Australia have made the one change, with Alana King coming in as an extra spinner and pace bowler Darcie Brown left out.

Alyssa Healy's team had looked near certainties to retain the Ashes a fortnight ago when they needed only one win from their final five games to keep the trophy.

They have since been beaten in two Twenty20s and the first ODI, making for their worst losing streak since 2017.

A win in this game will give Australia an 8-6 points leading with one ODI to play, with each white-ball match worth two points.

Wins in both would ensure Australia not only retain the Ashes but win the series.

England need to win both matches to claim back the Ashes for the first time since 2013-14.

AUSTRALIA: Alyssa Healy (capt), Phoebe Litchfield, Ellyse Perry, Beth Mooney, Tahlia McGrath, Ashleigh Gardner, Annabel Sutherland, Alana King, Jess Jonassen, Georgia Wareham, Megan Schutt.

ENGLAND: Sophia Dunkley, Tammy Beaumont, Heather Knight (capt), Nat Sciver-Brunt, Alice Capsey, Danni Wyatt, Amy Jones, Sophie Ecclestone, Sarah Glenn, Kate Cross, Lauren Bell.
