England's World Cup prize money revealed as stars set for huge bonus if they lift trophy

England's players are expected to secure bonuses of around £400,000 each if the Three Lions manage to go all the way and win the World Cup later this month.

That figure is expected to rise even more when factoring in endorsement deals. Gareth Southgate's men have a bonus schedule that rises each time England progress into the next round of the competition, the first of which was pocketed when they finished top of Group B.

Next up is the stern test of Senegal, the reigning champions of the Africa Cup of Nations, in the round of 16. Should England run out triumphant in that clash, they would be one step closer to the all-important winners bonus of £400,000 to £450,000 per player in Southgate’s 26-man squad.

While that number impressive, it is minimal compared to the kind of figures these players see with their respective club deals in the Premier League. Things such as add-on payments or trophy and goals bonuses are rarely factored in at international level like they are with their club teams.

England have not lifted the World Cup since 1966 - the players involved in this current crop would become some of the most marketable and instantly recogniseable figures in the country, increasing the likelihood of some lucrative endorsement deals.

Just last summer the England Women's team went the distance in the European Championship and in turn, each star bagged £55,000 while boss Sarina Wiegman received a well-earned bonus of £200,000.

There is a long way to go before England's players can start thinking about World Cup glory however, with a number of extremely talented opposition sides still in the competition even if the Three Lions progress past Senegal.

If results go as expected, it would be France waiting for England in the last eight, with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Olivier Giroud and Ousmane Dembele all aiming to stop Southgate's side in their tracks and prolong English football's wait for a second World Cup success.

Penalty shootout heartache prevented England from ending their lengthy wait for a major trophy in their last tournament outing, but Southgate has already explained how his players are ready to step up from the spot again.

Pressed on how he would feel if the clash against Senegal were to go to a shootout, the England boss claimed: "We're prepared. We've had a process that we've followed.

"We've won two of three shootouts and looked at how we can improve. But of course, there are so many other aspects we have to get right.

"We're aiming to win the game in 90 minutes and to avoid extra time and penalties. But if we need to go beyond that we have to be ready mentally and physically. I believe we are."
