England's WAGs warned about Qatar's strict internet laws before World Cup

The wives and girlfriends of England stars have been given a cyber security briefing ahead of the World Cup.

An expert met with them to outline the dangers of online hacking in Qatar.

Access to certain websites is blocked in the Gulf state. And anyone who facilitates the spread of “fake news” can be imprisoned.

A source said of the security lesson: “It was a long, detailed session. But it was not all about hotels and restaurants.

“It was much more about support from the FA and tips on culture, and the importance of online security.

“The online warnings made up a big part of it. There were also some genuine concerns about hacking.”

Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford’s wife Megan Davison, 26, their son Arlo, three, and Jack Grealish’s girlfriend Sasha Attwood, 25, are among those expected to travel to the England games.

The group will also be with Luke Shaw’s partner Anouska Santos, and their two children.

England are likely to take the biggest entourage of family members to the first tournament in the Middle East, which kicks off on Nov 20.

Qatar Tourism’s Chief Operating Officer Berthold Trenkel promised fans an “amazing experience” and urged families to attend because of the ease of access to stadiums.

He said: “The closest are four to five kilometres away, from each other, a short walk. Temperatures will be brilliant because it is winter.”

But Qatar has come under fire over human rights, the treatment of migrant workers and prejudice against the LGBT community.
