England's route to the Women's Euros 2022 final at Wembley

The Women's Euros 2022 gets underway on Wednesday evening when host nation England take on Austria at Old Trafford.

If everything goes according to plan for the host nation, England will then play the final game of the tournament on July 31 at Wembley Stadium.

In order for Sarina Wiegman's team to reach the competition's showpiece game at the end of month and lift the coveted trophy when it's all said and done, they will have to navigate their way through some of the best teams in Europe.

Though they aren't considered the overall favourites for the month-long 16-team tournament, the Lionesses will be eager to prove any doubters wrong

In order for England to successfully reach the finals, they will first have to make their way through Group A, which consists of Austria on July 6, Norway on July 11 at Brighton and Hove Albion's The Amex stadium and concluding in Southampton's St Mary's stadium against Northern Ireland on July 15.

Finish top of Group A and they will face the runners-up of Group B on July 20 in Brighton in the quarter-finals. Group B has Germany, Finland, Denmark and the current favourites to win the tournament in Spain. If the Lionesses finish second, they will face the winner of Group B - that match taking place on July 21 at Brentford Community Stadium.

Progress to the semis after winning Group A and they will be up against the winner of the third quarter-final match, which pits the Winner Group C vs Runner-up Group D. Group C has Portugal, Switzerland, Sweden and reigning European Champions the Netherlands.

Group D consists of Belgium, Iceland, France and Italy and should England finish runners-up of Group A but still make it to the semi-finals, they will play the winner of fourth and final quarter-final which would have been the runner-up of Group C against the winners of Group D.

The semi-finals will be played on July 26 at Sheffield United's Bramall Lane or on July 27 at MK Don's Stadium MK.

Successfully make their way through the semi-finals and England play at Wembley Stadium on July 31.
