ENGLAND’s Lionesses have fallen short of becoming world champions as they suffered a defeat in the Women’s World Cup final 2023.
Spain beat England 1-0, making the Lionesses runners up of the tournament.
England went behind with Spain's Olga Carmona scoring the first and only goal of the game in the 29th minute.

At half-time, Lionesses Chloe Kelly and Lauren James replaced Rachel Daly and Alessia Russo.
After a handball from England's Keira Walsh, Spain were awarded a penalty with less than 30 minutes of the game left.
To England's delight, goalkeeper Mary Earps saved the penalty taken by Spain's Jennifer Hermoso, keeping the scoreline at 1-0.
The 13 minutes of additional time at the end of the second half wasn't enough for the Lionesses to equalise.

A senior England men’s side was crowned world champions in 1966.
Today’s game marked the first time either a men’s or women’s England team had played in a World Cup final since Bobby Moore lifted the trophy at Wembley 57 years ago.
