England player ratings vs Argentina: Joe Cokanasiga busy but Manu Tuilagi subdued as Ben Youngs struggles

Manu Tuilagi had a quiet time of things against Argentina

England got their autumn schedule off to a poor start as Argentina earned their first win at Twickenham since 2006.

The Pumas edged a tight encounter 30-29, with 25 of those points coming from Emiliano Boffelli who was as reliable as ever with his boot and also went over in the corner.

Joe Cokanasiga got England up and running in the first-half but from then on it was just Owen Farrell keeping the scoreboard ticking, as they fell to a frustrating defeat.

Nick Purewal was at Twickenham to rate the England players...

Freddie Steward 6

Solid under the high ball but unable to cut free in attack.

Jack Nowell 5

Worked hard but could not find his attacking feet.

Manu Tuilagi 6

A subdued outing for the powerhouse centre, one big hit aside.

Owen Farrell (capt) 6

Kept his cool off the tee but could not pilot the side well enough.

Joe Cokanasiga 7

Took his try well and kept himself busy.

Marcus Smith 6

Always looked to keep England moving but could not get with Farrell or his forward.

Ben Youngs 5

Struggled to put England on the front foot around the fringes.

Ellis Genge 7

Battled well at the set-piece and carried hard.

Luke Cowan-Dickie 6

Struggled to impose himself around the fringes.

Kyle Sinckler 6

Kept a solid set-piece but would have wanted to be on the ball more often.

Alex Coles 6

Settled his nerves after a few early errors.

Jonny Hill 6

A quiet game by his usual lofty standards, lots of graft but unable to add his extra spark.

Maro Itoje 6

Battled all day but could not quite impose himself in the loose exchanges.

Tom Curry 6

Put himself about all day but general team errors stopped any ruck flow.

Billy Vunipola 6

Central role in first try but faded at the start of the second-half.

Billy Vunipola became less and less influential as the match went on (PA)

Scrummaged well but the game got away from England.

Joe Heyes (for Sinckler, 73) 5

Unable to offer much impact at the death

Sam Simmonds (for B Vunipola, 57) 6

Rangy contribution but England were held out at the last.

Jack Willis (for Coles, 74) 6

Brought in too late to make much impact.

Jack van Poortvliet 7

Took his try well and drove the pace.

Henry Slade (for Tuilagi, 67) 6

Unable to affect proceedings as Argentina ground home.
