England player ratings as Kieran Trippier and four others poor in USA draw

Jordan Pickford - 6

Tipped a Pulisic effort on to the bar in the first half, but didn't actually have much to do despite USA's dominance.

Kieran Trippier - 5

Struggled in the first half in possession and gave the ball away a couple of times in the middle of the pitch. Offered little in attack.

John Stones - 7

Defended solidly alongside Maguire and kept USA to largely just set pieces and shots from distance. Struggled with his distribution at times. England could have benefited from more ambitious passes from him.

Harry Maguire - 7

Didn't have any tough one-on-one defending to do, but was important to England when defending Pulisic's dangerous corners. Got there first to one that looked destined to land on a USA head.

Luke Shaw - 6

Was off the pace in this game and failed to offer much going forward for England. Had a few opportunities to cross into the box, but didn't find anyone. Good ball in at the end for Kane's chance.

Jude Bellingham (for Henderson 68) - 5

Tried in the first half, but wasn't on the ball much as the midfield struggled. Was arguably unlucky to be brought off, but wasn't in the game enough.

Declan Rice - 6

Kept it steady and broke up play when he could, but was in the middle on his own a lot of the time as Mount and Bellingham had pushed up. Much of the second half passed him by.

Mason Mount - 5

Found it difficult in the first half, as did much of the England side. Ran around a lot, but seemed to have no structure to his play and it felt rushed.

Bukayo Saka (for Rashford 78) - 5

On the periphery of the game, unlike Monday afternoon. Found it hard going up against Robinson - who got the better of the Arsenal man. Was lucky to stay on for that long.

Raheem Sterling (for Grealish 68) - 5

England needed more from Sterling tonight, but it wasn't to be for the Chelsea man. Was very much out of the game.

Harry Kane - 6

Tried, but it wasn't happening for the England captain. Had a chance in the first half after some work down the right side of the pitch, but it was a good block. Could have won it at the end, but his header was wide.

SUBS

Jack Grealish - 6

Tried to make things happen when he came on, but didn't have a lot to work with. Often found himself very isolated when going on one of his runs.

Jordan Henderson - 6

Came on and tried to stamp his authority on the game. Encouraged the players and offered more legs in the middle.

Marcus Rashford - 6

Offered more than Saka and could be in line for a start against Wales. Like Grealish, though, found himself very isolated when trying to run at the USA defence.
