England handed Aurelien Tchouameni boost as World Cup yellow card and suspension rules explained

England will undoubtedly be wary of the threat posed by Kylian Mbappe when they take on France in the World Cup quarter-final on Saturday night. But the Three Lions must not forget the other talents in the France side.

Mbappe has taken the plaudits and made the headlines as top scorer in the tournament so far, with five goals in four games. But there are other impressive parts of this France team that England must be wary of.

Olivier Giroud became Les Bleus' all-time top scorer with his goal against Poland in the last 16 clash. And the midfield duo of Aurelien Tchouameni and Adrien Rabiot have impressed in taking over from the injured duo of Paul Pogba and N'Golo Kante.

Tchouameni was a wanted man before he made the £68million move from Monaco to Real Madrid last summer. Chelsea were heavily linked with a deal but he chose La Liga instead.

And it has been clear to see why he was worth so much money given his displays in Qatar for France. The 22-year-old has a passing success rate of 94.8% in the tournament so far and manages at least one key pass per game so far with at least two tackles and two interceptions per game too.

His position in the middle of the park does lead to regular duels though and Tchouameni has conceded four fouls in his four matches so far - not bad for a central midfielder.

But, his game could be blunted somewhat against England because he is walking a tightrope. Tchouameni has a yellow card to his name from those four fouls and that means he could face a suspension for the semi-final match should France get there, meaning he could reel in his normal game to try and avoid another caution.

Unlike in other years, players will not miss the World Cup final if they have been booked previously. Up until the quarter-final, players who receive a yellow card in two different games, will then miss their next fixture.

A player's record after the quarter-final will then be reset, meaning only a red card could prevent them from missing the final. England could benefit from that in the quarter-final clash, with Jules Kounde the other player on a yellow card for France. Gareth Southgate's side have yet to pick up a yellow card in the tournament.
