The first England game of the World Cup kicked off today, November 21, with a huge 2,500 seater fan park here in Liverpool open to the masses.
The World Cup has made its return, though not without controversy. Qatar is hosting the men's World Cup 2022 event in a decision Sepp Blatter, who was president of FIFA when Qatar was awarded hosting rights back in 2010, told Swiss newspaper Tages Anzeiger was "a mistake".
The competition is still drawing the attention and devotion from football fans across the world, with Gareth Southgate's England squad taking on Iran for their opening game today. It kicked off at 1pm (GMT).

In anticipation, FanPark Liverpool has opened at Sefton Park Cricket Club, with the capacity to welcome 2,500 fans. A Big Top-style venue, it boasts a state-of-the-art sound and lighting system to ensure no moment goes unnoticed.
There's also food from local suppliers and a fully stocked bar, while a variety of entertainment will ensure guests of all ages can make the most of the occasion. Throughout the tournament, there'll also be match day hosts and the opportunity to meet football legends.
This is FanPark's debut in the UK, with venues opening in both Liverpool and Swansea following success across the globe in countries including Norway and Spain. In Liverpool today, it was a relatively quiet affair, though there were still people in attendance.
The venue wasn't full but this could be due to the time of today's game, with many people still at work. England's next game will see the Three Lions go up against the USA this Friday, November 25, at 7pm.
It's expected this game will see a much larger crowd turn out to watch. FanPark Liverpool is based at Sefton Park Cricket Club. Entry to FanPark Liverpool is free and on a first-come-first-served basis.
Table reservations are available for larger parties, at a cost of £20 and guests must pre-order a drinks package. There is also an exclusive VIP section available to book for £25, which comes complete with premium facilities including separate toilets, swanky tables, a freshly prepared two course meal, and a meet and greet with a football legend.
