England fans have bizarre excuse for poor results after 4-0 defeat to Hungary

Some England fans are bizarrely blaming Channel 4 for their side's poor run of results.

Gareth Southgate's team have scored just one goal in their four games since Channel 4 started showing their Nations League matches and were thrashed 4-0 by Hungary on Tuesday night.

A double from Roland Sallai and late efforts from Zsolt Nagy and Daniel Gazdag condemned England to a hefty loss and their fourth game without a win in Group A3 of the competition.

To compound the hosts’ misery, defender John Stones was sent off for a second bookable offence eight minutes from time.

Fans turned on Southgate and his players just five months out from the World Cup following the result, but some also took to social media to vent their anger at Channel 4.

One said: "Ever since channel 4 started showing the England games we’ve not scored from open play and lost to Hungary twice, and to make it worth they have the worse pundits I’ve ever seen."

Another commented: "God I hope channel 4 aren’t showing any of our Wold Cup games. Jinx."

Someone else posted: "I blame Channel 4. They purchased the rights for the cricket and England got stuffed by India. And now the football team are having a shocker since the games moved to the channel."

One other tweet read: "This is a shambles from England. Personally I blame Channel 4 for broadcasting this."

"Dear @Channel4, please don’t think of showing England in the worldCup. Stick to big brother and come dine with me," added another.

Someone else tweeted: "I blame England becoming s*** on Channel 4. We'd never lose to Hungary on BBC1, ITV or Sky."

Despite fans turing on Southgate, England captain Harry Kane backed his manager.

When asked if Southgate was still the right man for the job, Kane said: “Without any question. That’s not a question I should even be answering if I’m honest.”

The heavy loss at Molineux left England bottom of their Nations League group, having only scored one goal in four games.

Kane said: “It was a disappointing night. In the first half I thought we actually created enough chances to score but it’s kind of been the story of our Nations League so far, we haven’t quite had that cutting edge.

“The second half was unacceptable. Once we went 2-0 down, to concede when we did. We’ve not had a camp like this but it’s not time to panic, it’s time to keep our heads up.

“We’ll look forward to a break now and come back stronger in September.

“It’s our first big defeat in a long time. Our defence has been the structure behind our success over the last four or five years. It was a night to forget of course but we’ve got to take it on the chin and move forward.

“At the end of the day we’re preparing for what’s going to be a big World Cup. That’s the most important thing. We’ll learn from it.

“Let’s not forget where we’ve come from. We got to our first final in 60 years nearly and got to a semi-final of a World Cup compared to where we were in the last 50 years. It’s not time to panic.

“Of course we understand the frustration. We want to win every time we put on an England shirt. We’ve got to take it on the chin. We’re not going to be perfect every game.”
