England face triple injury concern as Harry Kane forced off in Bayern Munich thriller

Harry Kane suffered a new injury scare before England’s latest Nations League games after being forced off in Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga thriller against Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Three Lions captain received treatment to his right leg on the pitch before being replaced in the 72nd minute of Sunday’s 3-3 Bundesliga draw at Deutsche Bank Park.

Speaking after the game, Bayern boss Vincent Kompany, who also saw France defender Dayot Upamecano injured against Frankfurt, said: “It’s still too early to say what Kane has. We hope it’s nothing serious.

"Same goes for Upamecano. This week was a real test for our team to see how dominant we can be against these teams three times a week."

Kane also hurt his ankle during last weekend’s draw with Bayer Leverkusen but recovered to start and play 90 minutes in the midweek Champions League defeat by Aston Villa.

Bayern issued a statement on the 31-year-old on Monday, confirming he had joined up with England for further assessment.

"Harry Kane, who had to be substituted due to an injury, travelled directly from Frankfurt to the English national team and was examined by the Football Association's doctors. A more precise diagnosis is still pending,” Bayern said.

If Kane does miss England’s upcoming Nations League games against Greece and Finland, then either Ollie Watkins or Dominic Solanke could step in to lead the line, with the possibility of Ivan Toney receiving a recall to the squad as a replacement.

It is one of several injury concerns for interim England boss Lee Carsley from the weekend, with Nottingham Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White and Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa also both going off with knocks.

Harry Maguire, who was left out of Carsley’s latest squad but may have been called up to replace Konsa, also came off injured at half-time of Manchester United’s 0-0 draw at Villa Park.

England host Greece on Thursday night at Wembley before an away clash with Finland in Helsinki three days later.
