England are set to find out the extent of Ollie Robinson’s ankle problem, as their bowling injury concerns mount ahead of the Ashes.
Robinson was struggling with the issue during Sussex’s match against Glamorgan last week and is due to undergo a scan on Monday, having been seen on crutches and in a protective boot at Hove on Sunday.
The seamer reported some discomfort in his left ankle after bowling nine overs on Friday but returned on Saturday morning to bowl an eight-over spell, only to be forced off the field before lunch.
He did not return to action for the remainder of the match, which finished in a draw on Sunday after Glamorgan posted a monstrous 737 in their second innings, Australia batter Marnus Labuschagne among three centurions.
Robinson had been in excellent form, taking 20 wickets at an average of 13.65 across three appearances this term before the latter of those was curtailed.
The 29-year-old was last week named in a 15-man squad for the one-off Test against Ireland, which starts at Lord’s on June 1 and is England’s only warm-up game ahead of the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston on June 16.
James Anderson is nursing a minor groin strain and is expected to be rested against Ireland, but Jofra Archer (elbow) and Olly Stone (hamstring) definitely miss out.
