England epic revisited as Wallabies return to Twickers

With a new coach at the helm, the Wallabies will kick off a tough four-Test spring tour to Europe in November with a re-match with old foe England at Twickenham.

The Australians will cap a demanding year with Tests against England, Italy, Ireland and France, coming after a three-Test tour by the British and Irish Lions plus a further eight internationals - bringing the tally to 15.

Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt announced this month he planned to step down after the six-Test Rugby Championship concludes on October 4 against New Zealand in Perth.

A new coach will take the reins for a Test against the Eddie Jones-coached Japan in Tokyo on October 25 en route to Europe.

The next task is a clash with England at rugby's London cathedral on November 1.

It will be an eagerly-awaited rematch of last November's clash with England doubtless eager to gain revenge for Schmidt's side snatching a try through Max Jorgensen with the last attack of the game in the 84th minute to prevail 42-37 in what will go down as a true Anglo-Aussie classic.

Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii also made his striking international debut in the Aussies' first win at England's 'HQ' since 2015.

That victory launched the Wallabies' spirited effort to achieve a first 'grand slam' clean sweep on a tour of the British Isles for 40 years, as they subsequently won in Wales before falling short against Scotland and Ireland.

The fixture falls outside the international window, and it will also be the first time England have played a four-Test 'autumn' program in a Lions year, with matches also scheduled against Fiji, New Zealand and Argentina in November.

Following England the Australians will play Italy on November 8, world No.2 Ireland in Dublin on November 15 before concluding with a Test against France on November 22.

Rugby Australia chief executive Phil Waugh said the Wallabies would look to build on a strong 2024 northern hemisphere campaign.

"Last year's series captured the imagination of Australian fans on account of the Wallabies' strong performances and we are looking forward to another competitive northern hemisphere tour in 2025," Waugh said.

"All teams now have an eye on the Rugby World Cup in Australia in 2027 and the Wallabies are very much looking forward to testing themselves against the best the northern hemisphere has to offer later this year."
