England boost as Luke Shaw, John Stones and Bukayo Saka train ahead of Euro 2024 opener

England manager Gareth Southgate has been boosted by a clean bill of health in his squad after arriving in Germany for the European Championship, with all of Luke Shaw, John Stones and Bukayo Saka training on Tuesday afternoon.

All 26 members of Southgate's squad were set to be involved in an open training session organised by UEFA in Jena, which is expected to attract up to 10,000 spectators.

Stones was forced off at half-time of England's final warm-up game against Iceland at Wembley on Friday night after a knock to his ankle while Saka, who played the final 25 minutes, has missed several sessions with a groin strain which ruled him out of Arsenal's final game of the season.

Shaw is England’s most significant injury doubt and has not played for club or country since February due to a muscle issue. Southgate admitted the defender’s inclusion was a “gamble” but there is hope he will be fit enough to feature in England’s second group game, against Denmark on June 20.

Lewis Dunk, who missed the Iceland game with a knock, and Jude Bellingham were also expected to be involved in the squad's first training session since touching down in Germany on Monday afternoon.

Bellingham was the final player to join up with the squad on Sunday following an extended break to recover from Real Madrid's Champions League Final win and will need to get up to speed ahead of the opening group game against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday.

Jena is a 30-minute drive from England's training base for the tournament, the luxurious Weimarer Spa and Golf Resort near Erfurt.
