England and Gareth Southgate's World Cup 2022 chances rated ahead of France quarter-final

Whisper it, but England look like a squad who believe this could really be their year. Despite a rusty start against Senegal, Gareth Southgate's players turned on the style to breeze through the the World Cup quarter-finals with a 3-0 win.

The only problem? World champions France await in Saturday night's last-eight tie, with Kylian Mbappe in stunning form. The big question for Southgate is whether his attack is better than his defence, with a thrilling Three Lions midfield and attack putting three past Senegal to banish any memories of a nervy opening to the game when the Lions of Teranga looked the likelier side to score first.

England now face the World Cup holders, with Mbappe the tournament's in-form forward with five goals in four games. The PSG star put two impeccable finishes past Poland in their 3-1 last-16 win on Sunday, and it goes without saying that the key battle on Saturday night looks likely to be Kyle Walker vs Mbappe.

But even if England have arguably received the toughest quarter-final draw possible, Les Bleus will have plenty to worry about themselves. Jude Bellingham is only 19 but is already single-handedly destroying opposition midfields and defences, while Southgate has an embarrassment of riches in attack which meant Marcus Rashford - who has already scored three times in Qatar - was only used as a second-half substitute vs Senegal with the game already won.

Throughout the tournament, we are gauging the nation's mood to see how you think Southgate's squad will fare in Qatar.
