England (4-2-3-1)

Jordan Pickford (GK) England’s No 1 did not have to do anything of note. Ukraine were not allowed a shot on target. 6/10

Kyle Walker (RB) As quick as ever. Walker relished testing himself against Mykhailo Mudryk. He kept beating the Chelsea winger for pace. 8

John Stones (CB) The centre-back was untroubled by Ukraine’s forwards. His smart positioning ensured he was never under pressure. 7

Harry Maguire (CB) The defender will be pleased with a clean sheet, particularly after giving a goal away during the win over Italy. 7

Ben Chilwell (LB) The Chelsea defender was a solid deputy for Luke Shaw. Quick to the ball and produced some dangerous deliveries. 8

Declan Rice (CM) A disciplined showing allowed England to control midfield. The West Ham captain made a vital tackle to deny Ukraine in the second half. 8

Jordan Henderson (CM) Summed up England’s confidence with a clever backheel. The veteran put in some good crosses and pressed aggressively. 7

Bukayo Saka (RW) The winger enjoyed himself against Vitaliy Mykolenko. Saka made England’s opener and then underlined his quality with a stunning goal. 9

Jude Bellingham (AM) Slowed down by an early foul but the 19-year-old produced some thrilling surges. He worked to dim Oleksandr Zinchenko’s influence. 7

James Maddison (LW) The playmaker looked confident on his full debut. Almost opened the scoring and offered some creative touches. A solid start. 7

Harry Kane (CF) England’s new record goalscorer had some near misses before eventually opening the scoring. Ukraine’s centre-backs were no match for him. 8

Substitutes: Ivan Toney (for Kane 81) 6; Jack Grealish (for Maddison 86) 6; Conor Gallagher (for Bellingham 86) 6.
