Engineering works on Eccles tram line to end today, TfGM confirms

Today is the last day of engineering works on a key Metrolink line. A section of the Eccles route has been suspended from the town in Salford to MediaCityUK since the start of April.

Now, the works are coming to an end as planned, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) bosses have said. Existing replacement bus routes will still operate on Friday, April 29, but normal service will be resumed on the trams from Saturday.

This essential maintenance work is part of Metrolink's planned track renewal programme, and represents the second phase of activity on the Eccles line this year, with several further phases of work planned for later in 2022.

“Today is the final day of the works on the Eccles line,” TfGM tweeted on Friday morning. “Until the end of service today, a replacement bus service will call at all stops between Eccles & MediaCity. Trams are still running between Broadway & Ashton.”

Transport chiefs say the works were carried out to ‘replace worn rails’ and apologised ‘for any disruption or inconvenience which may be caused, but they are essential to keep the line safe for passengers.’

Passengers travelling on Friday who need to take a replacement bus can find out more information on TfGM’s website.
