Customers of one of the major energy providers have been given a date for when they will finally know how much their bills are going to rise.
Scottish Power, which has customers in Scotland, Wales and England, has been writing to customers in the wake of energy regulator Ofgem saying the price cap will increase by 54 per cent on April 1, 2022.
Acknowledging it is a "difficult time for many of our customers" Scottish Power says it will be in touch by Thursday, March 10 with details of new prices and the impact on household energy costs.
It said in an email to customers: "We know this is a challenging time for many of our customers, and understand you'll want to know how this will affect you.
"We'll be in touch by 10th March 2022 with the details on your new prices and how this will impact your energy costs.
"Please be assured, the price cap is designed to ensure you pay a fair price for your energy and, following the changes on 1st April, your prices will be protected until at least 1st October 2022."
Britain is facing a cost-of-living crisis, largely fuelled by the price cap rise which will increase average bills typically by £693 a year in the UK.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak has announced a £9 billion package, including a one-off repayable £200 discount and a £150 rebate on council tax bills, and £144 million to councils to support vulnerable households amid surging energy prices.
National insurance payments are also set to rise in April, while the Bank of England has warned inflation could rise to over seven per cent in the spring.
