With energy prices soaring and the weather only turning colder, many of us are putting off turning our heating on.
Even when we do make the decision to warm our homes, most of us are keen to spend as little as possible when doing so. There are a number of ways we can cut costs, but unfortunately there are also lots of myths about how to do so.
It can be difficult to know which "tips and tricks" will actually save money, and what the best ways to heat our homes actually are.

One notion that regularly does the rounds is that is can work out cheaper to keep the heating on low, rather than turning it on and off, as and when it is needed. As this is a hotly debated one, not everyone agrees and so there is no definitive answer for every home.
But experts have come to a conclusion. The Energy Saving Trust has debunked the notion as a complete myth.
Its experts say having the heating on only when you need it is, in the long run, the best way to save energy - and money. Money Saving Expert says having a timer is best as your thermostat turns your heating on and off to keep your home at the temperature you set.
