EncroChat suspect accused of links with explosives named

Police have charged a man from Netherley as part of their EncroChat investigation.

He was is the latest person to be charged with drug offences as part of Operation Venetic - the investigation into the use of encrypted mobile devices to carry out crimes. Liam Chung, of Sullington Drive, has been charged with conspiracy to supply cocaine, heroin and conspiracy to supply cannabis and amphetamine.

The 36-year-old was also charged with conspiracy to possess explosives for an unlawful purpose, conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm and possession of criminal property. He is set to appear in court today, on Thursday, May 5.

A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "A man from Liverpool has been charged with drug offences as part of Operation Venetic. Liam Chung, 36 years, of Sullington Drive, Netherley has been charged with conspiracy to supply cocaine, heroin and conspiracy to supply cannabis and amphetamine following his arrest yesterday (Wednesday 4 May).

"Chung was also charged with conspiracy to possess explosives for an unlawful purpose, conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm and possession of criminal property. Following his arrest, a significant quantity of cash was recovered from two addresses in the area.

"Chung was remanded into custody to appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court today (Thursday 5 May). The charge forms part of the Merseyside Police response to Operation Venetic: the national investigation into the use of encrypted mobile devices, commonly referred to as Encrochat."
