Encanto's Stephanie Beatriz was in labour while recording vocals for Disney film

Encanto star Stephanie Beatriz has revealed that she was in labour while recording vocals for the hugely popular Disney film.

The 41-year-old made the admission while speaking to Giovanna Fletcher on Walt Disney Travel Company's new podcast Journey To The Magic.

Stephanie voiced Mirabel Madrigal in the hit film, which follows a multi-generational Colombian family who all receive a magical gift from a miracle called Encanto - except main protagonist Mirabel - to help serve the community.

Stephanie, who is known for her roles as Rosa Diaz in Fox/NBC's Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Carla in the 2021 film adaption of musical In The Heights, opened up about going into labour while in the recording booth singing 'Waiting On A Miracle'.

She said: "I was in early labour but I didn’t tell anyone because the contractions were very far apart.

"But they were happening. I was also getting checked out all the time. My doctor was all over it.

"If anything could have taken me out of the fear of having my first kid, it was focusing on this job that I love to do. I love to work so much, I love telling stories and I didn't want that amazing part of myself to be sacrificed when it didn't need to be.

"I know my own limits and if I had said I can’t breathe or I can’t do this or whatever, and if I had been having contraction after contraction, I would sure as heck would not have been in there.

"There were a couple of times when we were in that booth where I was like, 'I’m just going to look like I’m thinking about this for a while – while I feel my way through what’s happening with my body. All right, let’s go!'."

Encanto received three nominations at the 79th Golden Globe Awards, picking up Best Animated Feature Film.

At the 94th Academy Awards, the Disney film picked up another three nominations including Best Original Score and Best Original Song - Dos Oruguitas - and winning Best Animated Feature.

As a result, Byron Howard became the first LGBT director to win Best Animated Feature twice.
