Empowered women empower women

International Women's Day is on March 8 and the 2023 theme invites everyone everywhere to truly "#EmbraceEquity". IWD has sparked a sense of solidarity year after year, bringing together people from all walks of life to honour the achievements of women. No matter who you are, you can also take action to promote gender parity. Guru By Bangkok Post presents a list of activities and public awareness campaigns for you to get behind the wheel of change.

Where: Quartier Avenue at EmQuartier, Sukhumvit Road

The Friends Of Women Foundation with the Raks Thai Foundation, hosts a day of celebrations. At Quartier Avenue on the G floor of EmQuartier, the event aims to promote gender equality through a series of talks while also working towards building a sustainable society. The line-up includes representatives of women's organisations, with key speakers such as Miss Universe Thailand 2022 Anna Sueangam-iam, Miss Universe Thailand 2021 Anchilee Scott-Kemmis (who has been credited for sparking the body positivity movement in Thailand) and Narilya "Yada" Gulmongkolpech, winner of the best actress award from the Thailand National Film Association Awards 2021. Standard Talks: Defining Successful Women

Women and Innovation

The Sasin School of Management, Chulalongkorn University, has teamed up with the Embassy of Israel to host a panel discussion on "Women & Innovation”. Listen to a few of dynamic and inspiring women leaders in business and academia, such as Saranee Sanguanruang, founder of Flourish Digital and LDA-Ladies of Digital Age, Prof Kaywalee Chatdarong, vice-president for strategic planning, innovation and global engagement of Chulalongkorn University, and Maneerut Anulomsombut, CEO of Sea Thailand. Girls Don’t Care

Charoen Krung's rooftop bar and cafe No Man’s Land will host a day filled with free activities. From 11am-11pm, a series of workshops will be hosted by female-owned businesses, including a nail art class by Nail Loft, a crash course for plastic upcycling by A Thing That Is Pieces Studio and a flower arrangement workshop by Pleasure Sculpture. If you're in need of positivity and self-love, a certified therapist will be on hand to guide you through a healing journey, as well as a tarot reader. Women In Mixology

Drink for a good cause at Banyan Tree Bangkok. The "Women In Mixology" event showcases five emerging female bartenders, who take over Moon Bar, with Ratiwan "Salon" Ratiwan from Lennon's wrapping up the event. #HerShe Campaign

Hershey's is jumping on IWD bandwagon by rolling out a series of limited-edition packaging and driving woman-focused storytelling through the "HerShe" campaign. The American chocolate manufacturer has turned its iconic 40g chocolate bar wrapper into a celebration of women of change, displaying their portraits on the packaging. Among these female spearheads is Kawiporn "Tim" Winichthaoprathom, a selfless aunt from Nonthaburi, who founded the Fairy House Of Stray Animals, which shelters more than 2,000 strays. Until March 8, Hershey's Thailand is offering a discounted price of the chocolate bar at B20 (from B33) at 7-Elevens nationwide. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the limited-edition chocolate will go to Girl Up, an organisation by the United Nations that helps women broaden their horizons in leadership skills. Women In Wine

As we celebrate the achievements of women around the world, what better way to honour them than through a tasting experience that showcases their talent and skill in winemaking? Join female sommelier Prakaidaow "Kan" Poohuotalat at her wine-blind tasting event "Women In Wine", hosted by Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort. ShePossible Art Exhibition

Central Group is shining a spotlight on female creators in the art world by showcasing their works at the “ShePossible” art exhibition, which is on display at the Grand Hall of Central Ladprao until March 12. The exhibition then moves to Central department store at CentralWorld from March 13-26. The series of art by talented female artists is open for auction and proceeds will be donated to the Freedom Restoration Project, the Friends of Women Foundation and the Centre for Girl Foundation. Bloom Art Exhibition

River City Bangkok's International Women's Day celebration is all about the power of art created by female artists. "Bloom” is in collaboration with Pagoda Art Club and captures the beauty and vitality of a blooming meadow through the eyes of 28 inspiring female artists.
