Employee dies after 'falling' at Glasgow Prestwick Airport as investigation launched into incident

An employee has died following an incident at Glasgow Prestwick Airport. Police were called at around 12.10pm on Wednesday following reports of a man 'falling'.

The 59-year-old was later pronounced dead at the scene. There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Health and Safety Executive spokesperson has since confirmed it is investigating the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 12.10pm on Wednesday, 11 January, to a report of a man falling at Prestwick Airport. Emergency services attended and the 59-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“There are no apparent suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”

A spokesperson for Glasgow Prestwick Airport said: “Glasgow Prestwick Airport can confirm that an employee died following an incident on site on Wednesday 11 January. Everyone at the airport is devastated and our thoughts are with the employee’s family and friends at this extremely sad time.

“We are working closely with the relevant authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

A Health and Safety Executive spokesperson also told the publication: “HSE is aware of this incident and investigating with Police Scotland.”
