The Ireland women sevens team have earned a spot at the Olympics following a 10-5 victory over Fiji in the World Rugby Seven Series.
Ireland lost to Australia 17-7 in the tournament's quarter-finals, but they were still in the running for automatic qualification and needed to defeat Fiji in the fifth-place matchup.
In addition to Australia, New Zealand, the United States, and the host nation France, Allan Temple-Jones' team can now begin planning for the Olympics in France next summer.

The Olympic Rugby Sevens competition takes place at the Stade de France in Paris from July 24 through to July 30, 2024.
IRFU Chief Executive Kevin Potts said following qualification: "A huge amount of hard work has gone on behind the scenes for the last number of years to reach this historic milestone and it is testament to the dedication, talent and resilience of the players that they have qualified for the Olympics."
