Emotional Frank McGarvey admits he may never see Celtic fans again after hospital visit

Frank McGarvey has admitted he may have spoke with the Celtic fans for the final time after his cancer diagnosis.

The 66-year-old club legend was brought onto the pitch at half-time during Saturday's 6-1 win for Ange Postecoglou's side at Parkhead against Hibs. McGarvey scored over 100 goals for the club and fittingly upon his return to Glasgow's east-end, James Forrest joined him in that elite club of 30 by marking a century of Celtic goals with a hat-trick.

McGarvey was left emotional after the support shown by the fans following his diagnosis, but speaking to Celtic TV, concedes that he doesn't know whether or not he will get to see them again.

He said: "I just wanted to tell the Celtic fans I love them very much. I want to thank them for everything that they have done for me. To score that goal (in the 1985 Scottish Cup final) when I was wee boy in Easterhouse, I dreamed of those things.

"They were never, ever, going to happen. And that day, I made all the fans happy. I've been to the hospital and they have told me what is probably going to happen to me.

"So this might be my last time to see them. So I just thank them for everything. Celtic Football Club is because of the fans.

"It is just a big family and when you come and see your family for the last time, maybe, it's kind of sad."
