Emotional First Dates moment as woman bonds with date after boyfriend of three years tragically died in car accident

A 29-year-old woman relives the moment her boyfriend of three years suddenly died in a car accident when she appears on the latest episode of Channel 4's First Dates. Car parts saleswoman Lana, who is looking for a new man in her life, tells her date, project manager Luke: "I moved up here with a guy that I was with together for three years and then he died in a car accident a couple of months after we moved." Her date, visibly shocked, replies: "Really?"

Then, in her interview with producers, Lana explains: "It didn't sink in at all. I wasn't hysterical, I wasn't anything. I just thought, there's something wrong here, it's not him."

She continues: "Because people are immortal to you. If they mean that much to you, nothing can happen. It throws your whole life into chaos and then you have to restart and rebuild."

Opening up to Luke, Lana says: "We were buying a house together. I didn't know that he was actually going to propose." In emotional scenes, she recalls how her late boyfriend's mother revealed that he bought a wedding ring in March and he passed away in the August of that year.

"I just burst out crying. He was waiting to get the house and the day we got the house, he was going to propose," an emotional Lana reveals.

She describes how, despite her tragic past, she was "ready to move on". During the episode, she and Luke get on well and at the end of the episode, both choose to see each other again. On their second date, Lana and Luke go bowling and the episode ends with a title card saying "They didn't manage a strike. But it looks like Cupid did."

First Dates airs on Channel 4 at 10pm on Thursday, August 1
