A heartbroken Celtic fan left talkSPORT hosts Natalie Sawyer and Neil 'Razor' Ruddock stunned as he shut down talk of Ange Postecoglou leaving the club.
Tottenham are moving closer to a deal for the 57-year-old with Daniel Levy set to ramp up his bid to take the Australian from Celtic Park to north London follow the Scottish Cup Final clash against Inverness Caley Thistle on Saturday. Reports suggest Celtic are already looking at their options and coming up with a succession plan for Postecoglou as he looks set to leave the Scottish Premiership champions to take over from Antonio Conte.
However, one fan was unwilling to believe that the Australian would walk away from Glasgow's east end when he phoned into talkSPORT to discuss the prospect of a switch to the English Premier League. Caller David bluntly started the interaction declaring: "It's not happening. Your sources are wrong, Natalie; they've got to be."
He then went on to point at the key difference between Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers - who left Celtic for Leicester City back in 2019 midway through a campaign: "This guy, he cannot leave. He can't. It's as simple as that. There is a too much of a rapport; I know the man and he's not a Brendan Rodgers. It was all about him with Brendan Rodgers - with the teeth and the tan and all that. It was always about Brendan. This guy has integrity (Ange). He is seeking greatness at Parkhead."
Pressed by Ruddock if he always felt that way about Postecoglou - after the Australian arrived following the club's drawn out pursuit of Eddie Howe - David continued: "I have. I have always trusted the process You know these guys that have an aura about them? They speak and there is that low tone. He is a bit man...
Ruddock responded: "You can tell that the players love him as well. Love him and respect him."
David agreed before launching into an emotional on air plea for Postecoglou to stay in Glasgow: "Honestly they would run through a brick wall for him. Honestly, I don't think you understand just how bad this news is for us. See when Rodgers went, I was gutted. But we knew he was going to the Premier League because that is where he thinks he belongs, at Man United or whatever. Ange seems to have more integrity.
"He looks around Parkhead sometimes and sees the tifos of Jock Stein - we did a tifo of Jock Stein on Saturday - and you can see him looking at it and he wants greatness. I don't think it's about money. Ange, you are going to a club where top, top winners couldn't get a tune out of them. If you lose five games you could be out the door. You are not in the Champions League, you are not even in the Europa League so you're not at the table. You are about to lose Harry Kane, do you really want to walk into a team that is crumbling? I mean, what is Tottenham? It's a job for nine weeks."
