Emotional Bruno Tonioli tearful during BGT debut as fellow judges grill him on nerves

Bruno Tonioli can be seen admitting he was nervous ahead of making his Britain's Got Talent debut in a new teaser clip released today.

The former Strictly Come Dancing star, 67, dazzles in a red sequined jacket as he joins his fellow judges before the first live auditions, but confesses he is "terribly nervous" and feels like a "kid on Christmas Day."

He was named as the latest judge earlier this year following the departure of David Walliams, 51 – who had been one of the four people on the panel for a decade before he quit last year.

Bruno has joined long-serving judges Simon Cowell, 63, Alesha Dixon, 44, and Amanda Holden, 52, on the star-studded panel.

"There's a new kid on the block," the official YouTube account for Britain's Got Talent wrote on Friday, as it shared a new preview clip ahead of Saturday's episode.

In the short clip, Bruno can be seen meeting Simon, Amanda and Alesha backstage before making their way to the famous judges' table - bursting into the room in his eye-catching ensemble.

"Oh my," Simon exclaims as the new judge greets them, "I really feel underdressed now."

Alesha jokingly adds: "Bruno, I think you need to make more of an effort."

"Are you nervous?" Simon goes on to ask the excited star.

Bruno admits: "Terribly! You know as a kid, on Christmas Day - what is this going to be like?"

Britain's Got Talent's host Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly then enter the room, with Ant chanting "Brunooooo" at the new judge.

"My God, finally!" Bruno declares as he gives the presenter a big hug ahead of auditions beginning.

Speaking on The One Show last night, Bruno admitted he had "no idea" he had been in the running to join the judging panel on Britain's Got Talent - teasing that he hadn't ever seen the show.

Bruno says he's never seen previous series of BGT (ITV)

He told presenters Alex Jones, 46, and Anita Rani, 45, on the BBC show: "The crazy thing is I had no idea I was up for the job. I had no idea. I never seen it in my life. I never watched it".

Anita questioned whether he had conducted any research, asking the guest: "Normally when you go for a job you do your research. Did you do your research [beforehand]?"

Bruno responded: "How do I research? I got the job and I was on screen the next week." He added that he "did his thing" at auditions after enquiring about any rules.

The new judge admits BGT is 'very different' compared to Strictly (ITV)

He was announced as the latest judge on BGT earlier this year, following speculation that Alan Carr, 46, was up for the position after fellow comedian David's departure.

It was later reported that Bruno was being considered for the role, with him named as the latest addition to the panel shortly before auditions began towards the end of January.

During his appearance on The One Show last night, Bruno said that BGT is "completely different" to Strictly, which he'd been a judge on from 2004 until his departure in 2020.

* All-new Britain's Got Talent starts Saturday 15th April at 8pm on ITV and STV.
