For most athletes, media day is an obligation. For Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler, media day is a lifestyle.
Back on Oct. 2, Butler showed up to the Heat’s annual media day dressed in trappings more evocative of Panic! at the Disco than Stability! on the Basketball Court.
“I’m very emotional right now. This is my emo state and I like this. This is me,” Butler said then. “This is how I’m feeling as of late.”
Just when Heat fans thought Emo Jimmy had been laid to rest, news broke Wednesday that the alter ego had been resurrected—for the purposes of a Fall Out Boy music video.
Indeed, Butler played a starring role in a video released Wednesday morning for “So Much (For) Stardust,” the title track of the venerable emo act’s top-10 charting March 2023 album.
In the video, Butler dances and plays guitar while donning the haircut and a garish purple suit.
Butler’s emo turn appears to be working for the Heat: Miami is 33-25, fifth in the Eastern Conference and the winner of eight of its last 10 games.
