A MAN and woman accused of attempting to murder two people during a shooting at Gateshead last year have pleaded not guilty and will face a trial in Newcastle District Court.
Dakota Rhianne Clarke, 26, and Emmett Sheard, 31, both of Wallsend, appeared in Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday where they denied a number of charges relating to the shooting of a man and woman in Cassia Crescent in the early hours of September 21.
Clarke and Sheard both pleaded not guilty to four charges, including shooting with intent to murder the 42-year-old man and causing grievous bodily harm with intent to murder the 32-year-old woman.
The man was shot in the arm, while the woman was shot in the upper left thigh, according to court documents.
Clarke and Sheard will next appear in Newcastle District Court next month to get a trial date.
Detectives launched an investigation after the couple were shot while talking to two people in Cassia Crescent between 2am and 2.30am on September 21.
They were treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital.
Meanwhile, Lake Macquarie detectives had launched an investigation and were examining the crime scene.
A search of the property allegedly uncovered two firearms, which were seized for further forensic examination.
He was charged and refused bail.
The pair remain behind bars and will likely not get a trial date in Newcastle District Court until late 2025 or early 2026.
