Emmerdale writer reveals character will die in shooting - as one victim ruled out

Emmerdale are set to kill off a character on Tuesday night, according to soap writer Sharon Marshall.

The This Morning regular let slip the major spoiler during Tuesday's edition of the show, massively hinting that someone was about to die.

Viewers saw two lives on the line on Monday night, as Al Chapman and Cain Dingle's feud reached a deadly climax.

As the two men tussle over a shotgun, amid Al's affair with Cain's sister Chas Dingle being exposed, a gunshot was fired.

Viewers had predicted Kerry Wyatt might be the unlucky victim, given she was randomly near the barn where it happened.

But a new preview clip has ruled her out as the victim, meaning either Cain or Al could be injured if not dead.

It wasn't confirmed that a character was going to die in the spoilers, amid rumours of one character departing the show.

Sharon spilled the beans though and appeared to confirm the scenes will result in a death, while she remained coy over who.

Speaking to hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, she said that one cast member had very little lines left to rehearse, before saying someone was "out".

Phil had asked: "We heard a gun go off. Has someone been shot?"

Sharon revealed: "Well there were theories that Kerry had got shot, but it's clearly not her. Erm, yeah, that gun has fired and somebody doesn't have too much more dialogue to learn, let's put it that way.

"They're just out, yeah. That's tonight."

As a stunned Phillip asked: "Someone big?" she told the pair: "Let's just say that it's the start of a huge new storyline. That is probably all I am allowed to say on it. It's a goody."

Cain actor Jeff Hordley also teased the fallout to the big moment, revealing on Loose Women that it would trigger "ripples" for several characters.

He said: "From here, there are some really good stories. When you do stories like this, you have got to have the ripple effect afterwards.

"This causes certain ripples throughout for various characters within the village. Whether that is me, I can't tell you."

Asked if the big drama ever left him worried he could be dropped from the show, he said: "I'm worried every year. We are only on a year's contract at a time so everybody is nervous."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV and ITV Hub, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
