Emmerdale viewers in disbelief as little April 'unrecognisable' as she returns

Emmerdale aired the return of April Windsor on Wednesday night, as Marlon Dingle's daughter made a comeback to the ITV soap - and she looked so grown up.

With ongoing coronavirus restrictions and measures in place, several of the soap's younger cast and characters have barely been on screen as they haven't been filming as much.

Since last summer, actress Amelia Flanagan hasn't had many scenes as a result, so when she appeared in the latest episode fans were thrilled.

The 11-year-old daughter of late character Donna Windsor found herself being screamed at by stepbrother Ellis Chapman, who was upset over his dad Al's betrayal.

Al revealed he was leaving the village after it was discovered he had two-timed Priya Sharma and Debbie Dingle - while he was also accused of stealing money from Kim Tate.

Ellis was having a row with brother Billy, when April emerged from the house.

She revealed she was trying to study, only to hear the commotion from the boys outside.

Some viewers didn't even recognise the character, with some asking if the role had been recast.

Actress Amelia, 12, has played the role since 2014 when she was just five or six years old.

She's certainly grown up over the years, and more so over lockdown with her absence on screen.

Taking to Twitter, one fan wrote: "April looks so grown up!"

Another agreed: 'It's nice to see April back. She looks so much more grown up."

A third joked: "April aged 3 years overnight."

Meanwhile, a fourth agreed: "Omg April is grown so much," as another said: "Crikey!! Almost didn’t recognise April there."

This was echoed by a tweet that read: "Either April has been recasted on the quiet or the actress has grown hugely during lockdown!"

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode on Thursdays at 8pm.
