Emmerdale viewers convinced there is more to brothers' rift after blasting Cain

Emmerdale viewers have been left exasperated over a character's lack of growth and said there must be more to the grudge he was holding against his sibling.

During the latest episode, we saw young Kyle Winchester being sent away to a children's home after confessing he shot and killed Al Chapman. His dad Cain Dingle, who had originally taken the fall for his son's crimes, was subsequently released from behind bars and reunited with his family.

It later emerged his long-lost brother Caleb had been pulling some strings to help speed up his release. However, instead of being grateful and enjoying his freedom, Cain went ahead and threatened to kill his Caleb if he didn't leave the village.

During a tense conversation, Cain told Caleb: "Everyone reckons I should thank you." To which Caleb replied: "Oh, you don't have to. I'm just glad to help."

Cain then said: "Well, you haven't done anything yet, I still might go down". Caleb said he was confident he wouldn't and said his lawyers would be able to prove Kyle didn't kill Al on purpose.

Caleb then pleaded: "Look, I'm doing you a big favour. Isn't it time that we put our differences behind us?"

The brothers then hugged it out in what appeared to be a touching scene, however, Cain had different plans. He whispered into Caleb's ear: "You need to walk away while you still can. The next time I see you, I'll kill you."

Emmerdale fans were not too happy Cain was back to his old ways. Many also couldn't quite understand why he was still holding a grudge over a small incident that happened decades earlier.

One viewer wrote on Twitter: "Cain's character is so stupid. All these years and he still hasn't evolved beyond the thick stupid threatening thug he has always been."

Sarah said: "When Cain holds a grudge he holds a grudge, doesn't he? Lol."

Sulagna commented: "The writers wrote dialogues for angry Cain but forgot to write the reason why he is still so angry."

Emma wondered: "I am curious to what Caleb did to annoy Cain so much, it can't just be the car bit surely!"

Pam fumed: "Oh for goodness sake Cain's learned nothing. Kill Caleb. Do me a favour. He'd be straight back inside and this time he won't get visits at the drop of a hat...plus he wouldn't kill anyone, he's just full of hot air."

And Eli tweeted: "Isn't it time Cain grew, another character who is beyond tedious at this point."
