Emmerdale viewers 'can't watch' Marlon storyline after distress warning

Tonight's episode of Emmerdale divided viewers' opinions as we got to see Marlon Dingle settle into life back home after spending time in hospital from suffering a stroke.

With a warning at the beginning of Tuesday night's show (April 26) stating that some people may find scenes 'distressing' from his slurred and stuttered speech, some accused the actor of 'hamming it up for an award'.

We got to see one scene where his daughter April gave him some water after he said he was thirsty. However, after putting his head back too far, it caused Marlon to choke.

Scared that she's caused her dad to have another stroke, April screams for Rhona to come and help her.

At the end of the show, a difficult scene saw April storm out of the room as she struggles to come to terms with her dad's new way of life.

As Rhonda doesn't understand Marlon trying to speak to her once his daughter leaves the room, she asks Marlon to try and tell her what he wants.

After finding it hard to talk, he finally managed to say the words 'hospital' and 'back', suggesting he's not ready to yet be at home.

However, after watching the scenes tonight, viewers seem to be divided with some praising the actor's performance while others saying it's not true to life for people who have suffered strokes.

Unitedstand77 said: "Think Marlon is doing a great job acting. #Emmerdale "

Delucaevans commented: "I never have anything to say during the Marlon scenes it is just being so well done #Emmerdale

However, not everyone was as impressed with Marlon as some accused him of 'hamming it up' for awards.

Moore95_pamela: said "Call the hospital. Marlon needs an urgent referral with the Speech Language Assessment Team. Can't believe they haven't assessed before discharging home. #Emmerdale "

Themostlysilent: "Talk about over acting - Marlon hamming it up no end. Overdoing the misery in an attempt to get an award.

With James Dawson commenting: "#emmerdale I've had stroke victims in my family and its nothing like this p**s poor performance..."

Before adding: "Marlon seems more like he's lost his memory than had a stroke ,sorry but this performance deserves absolutely no awards as it's nothing like a real stroke victim and I find it totally disrespectful."

Emmerdale continues Wednesday 27 April at 7:30pm
